Independence Day 2022

Happy Independence Day From the Tibbitts family!

This year we had a fun filled Independence Day weekend.  We started the weekend off by going to the Del Mar Fair where we visited with some of the farm animals, Hope got to pretend she was driving some tractors (that was her favorite part of the fair), get some deep fried treats (deep fried Twinkie, Oreos, and cookie dough), listen to a country music band perform, and play some fun carnival games.  Hope won a Sonic the Hedgehog stuffed animal, which she loves.  We got to the fair early and left early.  Best way to beat the crowds and avoid lines.  It was a perfect morning!

On Sunday, we went to church and sang some of the best patriotic songs.  Hope shared her testimony in primary and also gave the closing prayer.  I was so excited when I heard that she did all that in primary.  She is such a brave and good little girl.

Monday was the 4th of July!  We started the day bright and early by walking in the annual Scripps Ranch Old Pros Fun Run.  This was Ray, Hope, and I's second time doing the Fun Run.  The first time I was pregnant with Hope.  Hope started out walking, but soon decided that riding on Ray's shoulders was the way to go.  The Fun Run or walk is a distance of two miles, which starts at Miramar Ranch Elementary school, goes up to Lake Miramar, and finishes down at Hoyt Park.  We had fun people watching and participating in this traditional 4th of July event.

Next Independence Day event was the Scripps Ranch 4th of July parade down Ironwood.  We had Ray's sister, Emily and her two boys visiting this holiday, so they joined us for the parade, as well as our good friends.  It was fun spending time with friends and family while we watched the parade go by.  The children got policeman and fireman sticker badges and lots of candy.  Hope even got a pair of Scripps Ranch Softball socks.

Swim time! After the parade everyone jumped into the pool to cool off and have fun.  We had a big game of marco polo that everyone enjoyed.  Ray's parents joined us in the afternoon.  After swimming, naps, and more swimming it was time for our big Independence Day BBQ, which for this year included pulled pork sandwiches, salads, hot dogs, and cake and ice cream cones.  YUM!

Time for fireworks!  We ended the night watching the fireworks in Poway. The fireworks show was supposed to start at 9 pm, but didn't started until about 9:20 pm.  Hope was done.  Despite having a nap, she was exhausted and really was more interested in going home and going to bed, than watching the fireworks.  We had a wonderful weekend celebrating the birthday of our great nation.  We are so blessed to live in America.
