This past Friday, we went to the Weeki Wachee Springs State Park, which is about 45 minutes north of Tampa here in Florida.  The park was built around a natural spring that has created a fresh water crystal clear lagoon and river.  We were able to go on a river cruise and see some of the local animal life, which includes turtles, birds, and in the winter months manatees (we didn't see any manatees because we went in the summer).  There is also a water park and a live mermaid show in a the lagoon.  I am hoping we can return and kayak down the river in the winter or spring time and see some manatees.

Thanksgiving/My Birthday At Disney's EPCOT Center November 24th, 2022

 This year for Thanksgiving we decided that we would spend the day at a Disney theme park since we would be away from family.  My birthday was also on Thanksgiving this year, so Ray said I could pick what we did for the day.  Neither Ray or I had ever been to the Disney World Resort (except for Disney Springs, which we have attended a couple of times since moving to Tampa).  Reservations to the parks are needed and Disney's Magic Kingdom had already sold out of reservations, plus I picture the Magic Kingdom being a lot like Disneyland in California, which I have been to many times.  A Disney cast member I spoke with said that Thanksgiving is notorious for being the most crowded day of the year, so she recommended we attend either EPCOT or Disney's Animal Kingdom.  We have been to many zoos, so we decided EPCOT was the place for us.  We left our apartment at 6 am on Thanksgiving, so we could get to the park when it opened at 8 am.  After a quick st...

Our Pool! Jan-May 2023

We started our pool project in January 2023.  We were so excited that we would soon have a pool in our backyard.  The pool company explained that from sign to swim it would be 5 months in time.  How exciting!  We would be swimming by summer time.  Hope has been in swim lessons since she was about 1 year old and loves the water. I’m so glad we started the project during the winter months when we really didn’t have a desire to go in a pool because it does actually get cold in Florida.  When the weather did warm up, we had our community pool to swim in, which was perfect.   Step One: Dig the pool The soil here in Florida is so easy to dig unlike San Diego soil, which is filled with rocks.  The crew took half a day or less to dig out the pool.  The rebar team then moved in to prepare for the next step, which was pouring the concrete.  After the team finished the digging and placing the rebar, an alligator turtle wondered into our backyard an...

Disney World's Magic Kingdom with the Wickley Family

 Our First Trip to the Magic Kingdom - May 2023 Last November we visited Disney's EPCOT center.  This year the plan was to visit The Magic Kingdom.  We had a good reason to go when some friends from out of town came to visit us.  We ate Pineapple DoleWhip ice cream and Mickey Mouse ice cream bars.  Hope got to meet one of her favorite princesses of all time, Belle.  We had a wonderful time and the kids did great. I learned a few things about going to Disney World and the Magic Kingdom during this trip.  I learned that May is way to hot to go to Disney World.  We were sweating all day.  As a result, we will not be going to Disney World again from about March to November.  Not a good temperature here in Florida to be outside all day.
